Me: “No problem, that’s our floor too.”

Stranger: “That’s a tough floor to have someone on.”

Me: “Who do you have here?”

Stranger: “My husband.”

Me: “What’s he here for?”

Stranger: “He’s having both his legs amputated tomorrow.”

Me: “I’m sorry.  I hope he recovers soon.”

Stranger: “He won’t recover.”

Me: “What do you mean?”

Stranger: “The doctors have already said that he will not recover.”

Me: “Then, why are you putting him through the surgery?”

Stranger: “That’s what I said to the doctors.”

“Yall Take Care of Me”

We got off the elevator and went our separate ways without exchanging names, only heartfelt sympathy and empathy.  Later that weekend as my sister and I stood vigil in my stepmom’s hospital room, I could hear a man moaning and groaning loudly.  It was an eerily depressing sound like none I’d ever heard before.  I couldn’t help but wonder if this were the husband of the woman I’d met on the elevator.   I turned my thoughts back to my stepmom who looked so small, weak, and fragile.  At times we were not sure if she would make it.  She would come in and out of consciousness, but would seem to perk up a little when she saw my sister and I.

She could barely talk, except to whisper, “Yall take care of me,” in her soft southern voice.   I assured her that we would make sure she was taken care of and to just rest.  She’d been admitted initially for dehydration.  Little did we know that her waning energy and spirit was due to her kidney’s failing.  Before she was admitted to the hospital, she was slowly slipping away.  All she wanted to do was sleep.  Thankfully we got help in time.  In the last four months, she has pulled through high blood pressure, congestive heart failure, diverticulitis, kidney failure, and now dialysis.  She’ll be 84 in a couple of months and has to have dialysis three times a week.  Still, she gets up every day now full of hope and faith and tells all of her family and friends that she loves them.

Wild Oregano to The Rescue

This month’s health tip is on the spicy herb oregano.   I’d heard the hype on the radio. I purchased a book on the topic.  I’d even gone to Whole Foods to purchase the Wild Mediterranean brand mentioned.  Since I hadn’t finished my research, I hadn’t taken any.  Then a few nights ago after attending a late evening class, I began to get a tickle in my throat and started coughing.  The cough continued and began to interrupt my sleep.  It was so noticeable that my husband asked if I was okay, because rarely do I get sick.  After he brought me a glass of water, I remembered the wild oregano claim to cure coughs.   I immediately got up, put a few drops of the wild oregano under my tongue, put some Thieves oil on the bottom of my feet and went back to bed.  I haven’t coughed again ‘at all’ and that was four days ago.  I’m a believer!

Germicide, Fungicide, Antihistamine, oh my!

So, what ‘s so great about wild oregano?  Well quite frankly, the claims are too numerous to name.  According to Dr. Cass Ingram in his book, ‘The Miracle of Wild Oregano,’ Wild oregano is the most powerful herb, or rather, spice known.”  Researchers claim that it is one of the most powerful curative substances known to man and that it will cure things that other synthetic drugs can’t even touch.

Dr. Igram also boasts that, “Wild oregano is a powerful germicide, antioxidant, fungicide, antihistamine agent, and antitussive agent. The latter means that it can halt a cough.  It is also mucolytic, which means it dissolves mucous deposits.”   In addition he swears that it destroys, “bacteria, viruses, fungi, drug-resistant germs, and parasites.”  You’ve just got to check out all the things it can do for yourself.  It appears to handle whatever ails you!  And if any of you have a fungal infection, he has a protocol in the book to clear it without destroying your liver.  Yes, it has the same name as the  oregano you put in your pasta dishes, but its grown and  processed quite a bit differently.

Claims to Be the Strongest Antibiotic Known to Man

In addition, the Curing Herbs website  http://curingherbs.com/wild_oregano_oil.htm lists additional benefits of wild oregano oil, “Oil of Oregano, has been scientifically researched and proven to be one of the strongest and most effective broad spectrum antibiotics known to man. It is natural and safe to use. It will not create more mutant strains of bacteria. It effectively kills bacteria of every variety using only tiny amounts. It is also effective against fungus, parasites and viruses. It can be used externally and internally. There are no negative side effects. You need no prescription. It does not cost a fortune!”

If that’s not enough to get your interest, it also builds the immune system, kills internal parasites, is effective for colds, flu, shingles, herpes and warts.  And, because of its heating effects works as an effective pain killer.

Another website on health remedies http://www.homeremediesweb.com/oil_of_oregano_health_benefits.php shares how wild oregano helps  with skin infections, digestive disorders, and sinus infections.

As with all of my suggestions, check them out yourself.  Everything I mention, I’ve taken.  But you’ve got to do your own research.  You know the drill.  I am not a physician and can not prescribe anything to anybody.  Consult your physician, yadayadaya….

The Healing Powers of Infrared Light

As many of you know that have been following my blog, my daughter has been looking into traditional and non-traditional therapies to find a cure for her neuropathy.  The latest research has led us to infrared light.  And, what an amazing discovery that has been.

Infrared for Detoxing, Treating Cellulite, Beautiful Skin, and Pain Relief!

Did you know that infrared light has been used in weight loss, improving the immune system, curing skin diseases, strengthening the cardio-vascular system, controlling blood pressure and cholesterol, treating burns, scars, gout, and tissue damage, and for relieving joint and muscle pain as well as arthritis.  And, if that were enough, when received through an infrared sauna, it can relieve stress, increase energy, remove toxins from the body, and treat cellulite!  Please note that all saunas are not created equal.  One liter of sweat from an ordinary sauna released only about 3% of toxins  compared to 20% of toxins released when using an infrared sauna.

How Does Infrared Get Rid of Heavy Metals?

According to http://www.infrared-sauna-reference.com/body-detoxification.html, “Human body fat starts to liquefy at 110 degrees Fahrenheit. When fat leaves your body through transpiration, it takes heavy metals along on the way out. The deep penetration of infrared energy in your skin makes this happen. This does not occur in a traditional sauna, only in an infrared sauna.

Increased blood circulation stimulates the sweat glands, releasing built-up toxins and waste. Daily sweating can help detoxify your body as it rids itself of an accumulation of potentially carcinogenic heavy metals (lead, mercury, zinc, nickel, cadmium) as well as alcohol, nicotine, sodium, sulfuric acid and cholesterol.”

What Exactly Is Infrared Light?

If you are like me, you might not understand what infrared light actually is.  How is it possible for it to do so much?  Well, everyone has seen the colors in a prism of sunlight if they’ve ever seen a rainbow. The colors go from violet, blue, green, yellow, orange, and finally red light.  Sir Frederick William Herschel, an 18th century astronomer and musician became curious about how much heat passed through the different filters he was using to observe sunlight.  So, he devised an experiment to see how much heat was associated with each separate color in the sunlight.  He noticed that each color got progressively hotter, with red being the hottest.  But then he discovered something else, that there was an region invisible to the eye beyond the red color that was the hottest of all.  This became known as infrared light and it also had a longer wavelength than the visible light.  Infrared light is so safe that today it is even used in hospital incubators.  It is also used for night vision, thermography, photography and tracking.  To learn more about this fascinating therapy, check out the links below.

Vitamin D3- The Sun Vitamin

Can Vitamin D3 Stop the Flu?

The world is changing and there is a fresh new discovery everyday.  Lately there has been a big buzz about Vitamin D3. Vitamin D has been touted as the new super vitamin with the ability to protect against viruses, stop the flu in its tracks, help in energy production, and prevent and treat malignancies, cancers, and auto-immune diseases.

Free Webinars with Dr. Mayer Einstein

I also got an incredible amount of information from Dr. Mayer Einstein.  He has weekly free webinars featuring the top experts in the health field.  He has a tremendous amount of information on vitamin D3 which he suggests using with a good Probiotic.  Be sure to visit his site at:  http://homefirst.com.  You may also want to visit Gary Nulls site at http://www.garynull.com.

We must reexamine the things we thought we knew and be open to new possibilities and information.  I am not a medical doctor or nutritionist, but I am wise enough to listen to those who are.   Our bodies cannot manufacture Vitamin D, but we can get it from the sun which is the best source.  We need to be out in the sun for at least 45 minutes a day to get enough Vitamin D.

How Do We Make Vitamin D3 From Sunlight?

According to Dr. Mercola, “ Ideally, the best place to get vitamin D is from your skin being exposed to the UV-B that is in normal sunlight. Vitamin D from sunlight acts as a pro-hormone, rapidly converting into 25-hydroxyvitamin D, or vitamin D3.  Unfortunately, the amount of sun reaching most of the U.S. is only sufficient to generate a healthy vitamin D response for far less than half the year.  Most people don’t live far enough south or high enough in the mountains to allow enough Ultraviolet (UV) -B to reach their skin. So, for those times of the year when access to the proper amount of sun is not possible, you will want to consider an oral form of vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol).”

How Much Sunlight Do We Need?

A common misconception is that occasional exposure of your face and hands to sunlight is “sufficient” for vitamin D nutrition. Indeed, this exposure can provide 200-400 IU vitamin D during those months when appropriate sunlight is available, but for most of us this is an absolutely inadequate exposure to move vitamin levels to the healthy range of 45-50 ng/ml.”

Is All Sunlight Created Equal?

I’d always thought that I could get enough sunlight by sitting in front of a sunny window or while driving in my car.  But, sadly I am wrong.  Dr. Mercola explains. UV light is divided into three bands, or wavelength ranges, which are referred to as UV-A, UV-B and UV-C. UV-B is sometimes called the “burning ray.” It’s the primary cause of sunburn caused by overexposure to sunlight. However, UV-B sunlight also produces vitamin D in your skin. The amount produced depends on exposure time, latitude and altitude of location, season, amount of skin surface exposed, and skin pigmentation.”

What About Window Glass, Sunblock, and Darker Skin?

Another interesting fact from Dr. Mercola is that we should not think that just because its sunny we’ve gotten enough vitamin D.  “UV-B also stimulates the production of MSH, an important hormone in weight loss, energy production, and in giving you that wonderful tanned appearance.  However, UV-B does not penetrate very deeply into your skin. The darker the pigmentation or more tanned your skin, the less UV-B penetrates”

Other things that influence UV-B penetration include window glass and use of sunblock. Window glass allows only 5 percent of the UV-B light range that produces vitamin D to get through your home or car. Sunblock can block UV-B penetration drastically or entirely.   The timing of your sun exposure is also a major factor. Sun exposure must take place when UV-B is present. The actual dosing of your sun exposure is quite complex, since it involves knowing the amount of UV-B present, and is dependent on your skin color.”

Can Optimal Amounts of Vitamin D3 Increase Your Lifespan?

Vitamin D3 can even increase your lifespan.  It should  be no surprise that those that live in tropical zones fair better with getting optimal levels of Vitamin D and live longer.  Dr Mercola states that, “Interestingly, Hawaii has the top longevity rate in the U.S.   Residents of the state live, on average, more than five years longer than those on the mainland.”

Garlic: Nature’s Natural Antibiotic

GARLIC

What To Do When The Experts Are No Help!

What do you do when you’re feeling sick, the pain is unbearable,  and the prescriptions that the “experts” prescribe are either making you sicker or are just not working?

The first emergency room said, “It’s not shingles!”  The second hospital emergency room physician said very emphatically, “It’s definitely shingles!”  The third prognosis came from the neurologist, “I don’t think it’s shingles, but I’m not sure.” So where does that leave us, you’ve got it…confused!!

So now I’m going into the third week of painful episodes with a close family member.  Her skin feels like it is burning and is extremely sensitive to touch, even clothing hurt her.  At one point, the pain surrounded three quarters of her abdomen area, so she could only lay on one small area, which after a few days became numb and/or aching.

I Understand How Michael Jackson Could Get Hooked on Painkillers

I can understand how Michael Jackson could get hooked on painkillers.  They kept prescribing her painkillers which she took like clockwork because if she didn’t she couldn’t get any rest or relief.  It amazed me how quick they were to prescribe a medication even though they weren’t sure what it was.

By the end of the second week of pain, her window sill which housed her medicines was filled to the brim with a mixture of allopathic prescriptions, vitamins, minerals, and natural remedies.  Occasionally she would get a glimmer of hope and an easement in the pain, just to be shocked back into reality with another painful episode.  She was getting so disheartened.  I decided to call my irridologist.

Garlic Is A Natural Antibiotic

Dr Laurie recommended GARLIC and reminded me of the garlic detox she had prescribed for me a year ago.  She explained that garlic is a natural antibiotic.  It appears that this is not something new,  for  Garlic Central also reports that, “Louis Pasteur examined garlic’s use as an antibacterial back in the nineteenth century and showed how it killed bacteria under laboratory conditions. Numerous modern studies confirm that garlic has definite antibiotic properties and is effective against many bacteria, fungi and viruses. According to Wright State University (1), garlic is approximately one per cent as potent an antibiotic as penicillin.”

Garlic Must Be Fined Chopped or Crushed to Release It’s Anti-Fungal Properties

The allicin and diallyl sulphides in organic garlic is what makes it so healthy and powerful.  Accillin is anti-fungal and the diallyl sulphides are good for the blood, circulation,  and boosting the immune system.  According to Garlic Central, “Allicin does not occur in “ordinary” garlic, it is produced when garlic is finely chopped or crushed. The finer the chopping and the more intensive the crushing, the more allicin is generated and the stronger the medicinal effect.”  The site also states that garlic should be eaten raw, chopped, and with cooked food to protect the stomach because, “if garlic is cooked whole then it has almost no medicinal value or health benefits.”

Dr. Laurie’s Garlic Detox

The garlic detox consists of taking one tablespoon of raw organic garlic four times a day for four days.  I did it last year and I’ve rarely been sick.  Now brace yourself, you will smell like garlic for a few days, so do this over the weekend.  But the benefits are worth it!  She recommends doing it each season or when you feel something coming on.

Did you know that garlic according to http://www.garlic-central.com/garlic-health.html, is not only a “herbal wonder drug,” but can also :

The Benefits of Garlic

In addition, http://naturalhealthremedies.org/what-are-the-health-benefits-of-garlic/ shares the following extraordinary benefits:

  • Garlic has a powerful antioxidant effect-“Allicin naturally increases antioxidant enzymes atalase and glutathione peroxidase in your blood. It can help against the damaging effects of nicotine and slows the aging process of your liver by inhibiting lipid peroxidation.”
  • Garlic has 1% of the potency of penicillin and can ward off a number of bacteria such as Listeria, Salmonella, E. coli, Cryptococcal meningitis, Candida albican and Staphylococcus. The problem with most antibiotics is that bacteria develops resistance to them, however this is not the case with garlic.  These benefits were first realized back in the early 19th century when English priests caught infectious fever. The French priests, who ate garlic everyday, didn’t.”
  • Garlic is effective in reducing Blood Pressure– “Clinical trials, which were published in the Journal of Hypertension, showed that the blood pressure of volunteers was reduced 1 – 5% after taking garlic supplements. This may not sound a lot but this small reduction can reduce the chance of a stroke by 30-40% and heart disease by 20-25%.”

Can Two or Three Cloves of Garlic Prevent a Cold?

And, if all this weren’t enough, they assert that two or three cloves can prevent a cold!   As with any powerful medicine, there are precautions http://www.garlic-central.com/dangers.html.  Garlic Central cautions against storing raw garlic in oil in room temperature.  They also share recommendations on what to look for when buying it. http://www.garlic-central.com/garlic-101.html

When I googled the ‘health benefits of garlic’, I got 5,310,000 hits.  There is so much more to garlic.  Check out these links for a scientific explanation on the potential benefits of using garlic:  http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2009/01/090130154901.htm or http://well.blogs.nytimes.com/2007/10/15/unlocking-the-benefits-of-garlic/, or http://www.whfoods.com/genpage.php?tname=foodspice&dbid=60.

If that doesn’t convince you to introduce garlic as a regular part of you diet, then do your own research to find out how it helps with impotence, inhibits coronary artery calcification, reduces free radicals, and protects against many cancers.
