Don’t Stick Your Head in The Sand.

You Can’t Hide from The Truth

Closing your eyes doesn’t make your problems go away, neither does ignoring them.  If we are to be sane, successful, or of service to ourselves or others, we must operate around truth. We must pray for certitude and strength.  We must make the hard decisions that need to be made and change the things we can and let go of the things we can’t.  Even though it may be hard, we must learn to let go of dreams, relationships, or even jobs when it’s clear to everyone that they are no longer nurturing or sustaining us emotionally, mentally, or financially.  We can’t stick our heads in the sand and pretend that everything is okay.

Face and Handle the Truth

On the other hand, we also must hold on to our dreams and visions when our heart and faith tells us to, even if the whole world is against us.   Instead of abandoning our dreams, we might just need to change our perspective,  strategy or environment.  Be true to yourself by facing and handling the truth wherever it may lead you.  Look at the man or woman in the mirror and see what changes need to be made and change them.  Last year about this time I shared Five Changes That Will Make a Dramatic Difference. and How Are You Handling Change? I offer them to you in spirit of service as we take this journey together.

The World Is Our Mirror

What You See Is What You Get.

Although the world is our mirror, we decide what elements in the mirror to focus on.  There is so much out there that we can’t control and so much that we can.  We’ve got to decide which is which.  We can see light or can see darkness.  We can see hope or we can see despair.   We can see unity or we can see separateness.  If you see beauty you get beauty.  If you see love, you get love.  If you see hated you get hatred.  If you see lack, you get lack.  If you see abundance, peace, and opportunity, that’s what you will pursue.  What you see is what you get.   What do you see in the mirror?  Is the person happy or sad, kind or angry, full or fear or full of faith?

We Are Co-Creators of This Drama Called Life

Our free will and ability to make choices makes us a co-creator in this drama we call life.  We connect with, focus on, and are influenced by what we chose to see, believe, think, feel, and do.  And the clues for our search within are reflected back to us from every person, challenge, triumph, or situation we encounter.  Our oneness makes it possible to learn from others, but our uniqueness makes it necessary to do our own searching.

Part 2: Three Divine Remedies for Tests, Sorrows, and Adversities

We can’t seem to escape the pain.  Everyday we learn about someone we know who is laid off from their job, experiencing a personal health or financial crisis, or is feeling the pain of the death of a loved one, career uncertainty, or relationship woes.  Although we may doubt that the world will do right by us, there is a source  to which we can turn that is always fair and righteous.  The second divine pearl comes from the Bible.  It reminded me to keep my eyes on the right prize, to not worry about tomorrow, to not judge others, but instead to focus within to find the answers I need.  Much of our anxiety, worry, and sorrow are due to our “fear”  of tomorrow.  But, we’re told to not think of those things.  If we focus on the world, its problems, and its fears, they will consume us.  But, if we focus on following God’s Will, the morrow will take care of itself.  In Mathew 6:33 it says:

But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. 6:34 Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof. 7:1 Judge not, that ye be not judged.  7:2 For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.

Who Is Your Real Enemy?

It’s easier to blame others for our predicaments, but that is fear talking.  We have free will; we make decisions.  We are responsible for those decisions, the ones that work out and the ones that don’t.  The responsible thing to do is to ask ourselves: “What did I do or not do to cause this to happen or not to happen?”  Then prayerfully reflect inward.  The answers lie within us but, if we are focusing our energies outside of ourselves, trying to find someone to blame, then we will never find the right answers.  Turn within; how generous are you with your resources? Do you measure out a little for others or are you generous beyond measure.  “We reap what we sow.”  What are you sowing?   Remember, what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again!” Now, I ask you , “Where and who is your real  enemy?”

‘Les’  Offers More

If there is no enemy within, the enemy without can do us no harm.” This  is the third gem from Proverbs  that Les Brown’s, ‘It’s Possible’ video focuses on.  I was already feeling better and getting back on track when my friend Clif sent me this video message from Les.  It was extremely motivating and right on time.  I hope you enjoy it!  Les says, “Feed your FAITH and your doubts will starve to death.  Check it out, you will be glad you did!

You Can’t Attach a U-Haul to a Hearse

I spent the day after Thanksgiving burying a loved one.  During the past three months, I have attended four funerals and four times I have been “forced” or “privileged” to look at the eventual finality of this earthly sojourn and to put this whole human experience into perspective.  Interestingly, there has been at least one preeminent and recurring lesson through them all: in the end, all that there is, all that matters, is love! [Note: Thing 1(Laylah)- in the picture below is the three-year-old daughter of my nephew who died last week,  Thing 2-(French Pope IV is my grandson.]

How Many Lives Do You Touch?

Love is the glue that connects hearts in this life and in the next.  In the end, no one cares how much money you had or didn’t have, what degrees you had or did not have, what jobs you lost or found, where you lived, what you wore, or what you drove, none of that really matters.  No one cares how much “stuff” you have; because in the end, no one attaches a U-Haul to a hearse.  Love is all that you take with you.  The one with the biggest heart wins!  And, in the end life asks a different set of questions: How many lives did you touch?” How much love did you give?  How much did you care?  And more importantly, how successful were you in letting people know how much you cared about them?

Don’t Wait to Show You Care

Why do we wait to let people know how much they mean to us until it is too late?  In the funeral service held for Mrs. Frances Barnes two months prior, the choir sang a song that left a lasting impression on me.  The lyrics, “Give me flowers while I can still see them; say kind words to me while I can still hear them,” still ring in my ears because of their profundity.  I learned similarly profound lessons from the lives or deaths of  Lil Larry, Mrs. Frances Coley, and Mrs. Jacquelyn Lefton.  Reflecting on ‘what we remember’ when a loved one passes on offers important lessons for this life and how we should live.  We don’t control our entrants or exits, or when we take our first and last breath. So it would behoove us to get our houses in order.   What will people remember about you?  What will you take with you?
