Part 2: What Are You On?

Part 2: What’s Wrong With Me?

(Continued from Part 1: http://wp.me/ppImQ-mP

The correct question should have been, “What’s right with me?”  For years, I was disheartened because I felt that something was wrong with me.  I rationalized that it must be something ‘wrong with me’ because I was so different.  I was always so “energized.”  I don’t know if I felt different because I was treated differently or if I was treated differently because I was different.

Thankfully through my personal life experiences, prayer, meditation, vision, wisdom, and communications training I gained a different insight into understanding myself and others.  I now understand more of why I am like I am.  I am what I am and I am proud of it.  Now, when people ask, “What are you on?” I respond proudly and with certitude, “I’M ON PURPOSE!”

Make Lemonade!

I think that being asked that question so often and feeling that I was the odd ball is probably why I gravitated to the type of work I now do. “When life gives you lemons, make lemonade.”  I like lemonade.  The motivation work I do inspires people to not be afraid to be different and to “dance to a different drummer.”  Yes, we have to be considerate of others, (I now am aware of my “indoor voice”), but we have to be true to ourselves too.

Choose A Line of Work That Allows You to Be You!

Fortunately, I have chosen a line of work that allows me to be me. My loud voice is an asset in speaking to large groups.  Instead of trying to “fit into” other people’s boxes, we must each strive to “be” who we were created to be.  Sometimes that means conforming, there are times and places where moderating ‘me’ shows respect for others.  Other times it means stepping out.  I stepped out of my limiting boxes and now “I’m on purpose,” and it feels GREAT!

I ’m excited about life because…

Part 4: What Are You On?

When We Don’t Understand, We’re Likely to Misunderstand!

Continued from Part 3: http://wp.me/ppImQ-ng

In my Effective Communications training I teach people to try not to misjudge people who communicate differently from them.  It really does take all kinds to make a world and each particular style has its own strengths and potential weaknesses.   Unfortunately, when we don’t understand, we are more than likely to misunderstand. Training and facilitated dialog can help create this understanding. But, we can each take charge of our own communication.  We can step outside of our comfort zones and get to know other people.  Covey explains, “First seek to understand, then to be understood.” Our communication is only as good as our understanding of the person we are trying to communicate with.  Wayne Dyer said it best, “When we change the way we look at things, the things we look at change.” I learned to look at myself differently and my world changed!

Embrace Your Communication Style

Whether you are looking at Carl Jung’s work or any of the hundreds of assessment tools, MBTI, Disc, Platinum Rule, or PeopleStyles, they all explain that we are wired differently, but compliment each other.  Part of my energy and communication style may be luck or to some it may be a curse.  It depends on who’s asking.  People tend to like people who are like them.  Studies show that 50% of the population is just faster than the other half.  They move faster, talk faster, walk faster, and make decisions faster.  They are louder, gesture more, and speak more.  They are also more open and emotive.  The other 50% moves slower, talks slower, reacts slower, and talks more softly, and less often.  They are also more reserved and less disclosing of feelings and personal information.  I’ve learned that different is just different and that I am okay just as I am. Once you learn this, you’ll be okay too.

We must each embrace who we are. That includes…

Part 5: What Are You On?

3 Tips to Make People Wonder What You Are On!

(Continued from Part 4: http://wp.me/ppImQ-nF)

We must each embrace who we are.  That includes our talents, our natural energy level, and our personal communication style.  I’m okay and those different from me are okay also. It’s alright to be EXCITED!

What am I on? “I’m on purpose.”

In conclusion, I’d like to share three tips for getting on purpose and getting revved up about your life.

  1. First, accept yourself.  You are who you are and you can only become your best by being you.
  2. Second, don’t judge, misjudge, or try to change others. It’s hard enough to change ourselves.  No one wants to feel that they are not acceptable. Acceptance is the key.  The best way to do this is to consciously get to know other people on a deeper level.  Share a fear or a hope with someone and see how your relationship changes.
  3. Learn how to use your strengths to your advantage. Learn when to temper your strengths too, for any strength overused can become a liability.  For example, it’s great to be outgoing and to speak up.  It can become a problem when we talk too much and too loudly for the venue.

So, if you want to be energized, and make people wonder with envy about what you are on, learn to love and accept your special style and gifts.  Then, share them with the world!

Awaken to the Possibilities

Our human life closely mirrors the physical universe.  In fact to some degree it inspires us, shapes us, educates us, and manipulates us, just as it feeds us.  Spring represents new life; the earth itself reproduces abundantly.  Perhaps we should consider how we can be more productive.  The sun shines more brightly in Spring and awakens the dead or dormant earth and trees, and  melts the frozen water. Perhaps we can choose to be awakened to the possibilities of the universe or find meaning in awakening others who are asleep to their potential.  Perhaps we can let down our barriers and dissolve our fears, and melt our hard hearts and replace them with hearts full of love, faith, and compassion and  influence others to do the same.

21 Tips to Help You Spring Forward: Part 1

Spring Symbolizes Change

Don’t Fight It:  Go With the Flow!

In honor of the momentous arrival of spring on March 21st, I’d like to share 21 tips to help you spring forward in your personal, business, and spiritual life.   Don’t just sit there lethargically accepting mediocrity,  fate, or chance.  Get up, spring forward, pounce ahead, move onward, leap, twirl, soar…  Go after your dreams.  Make life really matter.  Appreciate life more by living it more fully.

Pick the life you want from the universal catalog of possibilities; plan for it, prepare for it, and promote yourself right now.  Don’t wait for others to see your greatness.  Give yourself permission to go after your dreams with faith, fervor, and fastidiousness.

Seven of 21 Best Spring Forward Tips

  1. Decide what you want and go after it.  Indecision wastes valuable time and energy. Decide, ask, believe, act, and receive.
  2. Have a spiritual or rejuvenating daily routine.  It can be as simple as having a few moments to quiet the mind and center yourself, to a longer time complete with prayer and meditation.
  3. Don’t sacrifice the most important for things of lesser value.  Don’t choose the easiest, quickest, or most comfortable.  Choose what will have the most impact and add the most meaning to your life.
  4. Get organized.  You waste time and money looking for things.  Have a place for your things and keep those things in their place.
  5. Limit interactions with contentious, complaining, toxic and negative people.  They dissipate your energy.
  6. Get enough sleep, fresh air, exercise, and nutritious foods.  Honor your soul’s earthly temple and treat it right.
  7. Work smart, not hard.  Always ask, “Is there a more efficient or faster way to do this?”   Or, “Should I be doing this at all?”  Remember, “No is a good answer too!”
